Even films with a serious subject, such as the classic documentary Man of Aran (1934), were given the standard marketing treatment with book tie-ups and other merchandising, and the publicity department devised a number of images to advertise the film.

An early film by Michael Powell, The Fire Raisers (1933), made just the year before, displays a similarly dynamic approach in the advertising.
