Born in 1964 in London, Sanjeev Bhaskar started his career in theatre and stand-up comedy circuits across London. His television career began as a presenter on Network East in 1994; he went on to present a number of shows, including Diwali Lights (BBC, 1994) and The People's Parliament (BBC, 1993-) in 1995. In 1996 he hosted his own tv gameshow Bollywood or Bust, and he later went on to co-present the BBC2 awards with Meera Syal and the EMMAs in 2002.

During the late '90s Bhaskar became a familiar face on television through the sketch show Goodness Gracious Me (1998-2000) and spoof chatshow The Kumars at No.42 (2001-), both of which he co-wrote.

Bhaskar has presented a number of television documentaries about South Asian culture, while his film credits include The Mystic Masseur (d. Ismail Merchant, 2001), Anita and Me (d. Metin Hüseyin, 2002) and The Guru (US/Germany/France/UK, d. Daisy von Scherler Mayer, 2002) .
