Darlaston, West Midlands. Members of the Young Foundry Theatre enact scenes from their past experiences, while also telling the story of the theatre group itself in their own words. As well as writing and performing a play about the local area and related problems of unemployment and homelessness, the members go out into the local community and visit hostels to talk to those affected by the economic policies of the Conservative government.

As the members interact with the community they demonstrate their anger towards Government programmes like the Youth Training Scheme by parodying contemporary adverts and acting out their recent humiliations in the workplace. Eventually they meet up with some of the older residents of the area and learn how its industrial heritage now lies in ruins. The Woodpile is an area of land that once hosted many factories, including the old lime pit, and the group members use the space to act out former experiences with the glue sniffing community and enact the incarceration of one of the group in Borstal.

Finally the group visit a pub and discuss the old days with some pensioners, which briefly cheers them, before they end up glumly watching a police riot-squad, who are training on a patch of wasteland near the Woodpile in preparation for any civil unrest that may occur.
