Episode 2, 'Operation Charm', tx. 29/10/1984

Beamish and Harry have dinner at Nancy's house. Beamish tells Harry that he must charm Nancy so that they can set up the secret army's HQ on the premises. Harry admits that he finds Nancy very attractive and can't believe that she is really Beamish's sister as she is so much younger. Beamish admits that Nancy was an unplanned 'accident' but that she doesn't know. Harry blurts it out by mistake, but she takes it well. Beamish goes to bed and leaves them to talk. Harry apologises to her for his faux pas. To his surprise she agrees to go out to dinner with him.

At the restaurant Harry asks Nancy what kind of man she would like to marry, but is dismayed by the long list of contradictory qualities she gives him. He tells her about his wife, who has taken his sons to live in Italy. Nancy agrees to pay the bill when he realises he doesn't have enough money. Harry invites some of his old army friends to come to the house for the weekend. He and Nancy go for dinner again and when he inadvertently lets the idea of the army slip, she suggests he use her house as his HQ. She agrees with him that Britain is going downhill and that they are duty bound to try to save the nation from left-wing agitators. When a card from one of Harry's army friends arrives confirming the invitation for the weekend, Nancy realises that they were invited before she gave her consent and calls the whole thing off. Harry meets his friends at the train station but has to send them away again. Harry packs his bags to leave. On his way out he tells Nancy that he truly didn't meant to deceive her and that he has fallen in love with her. They kiss and make up.

Harry's friends Throttle and Bagnell come for the weekend. Bagnell leaves almost instantly because Harry won't tell his plan unless he agrees to pledge allegiance in advance. Throttle admires the plan, but then leaves as he is getting married and his wife-to-be wouldn't approve of the secret army. Beamish unsuccessfully tries to dissuade Harry from seeing Nancy. She hits Beamish and kisses Harry.
