Introducing Ealing Studios by Gemma Starkey
Introduction Introducing Ealing It Always Rains... Googie & John Terence Davies on... Ealing at War

Introduction

Despite popular memory, Ealing Studios was about much more than just comedy. In fact, comedy made up less than a third of Ealing's output, and this set of specially-made films reveal the studio's surprising variety under the leadership of Michael Balcon.

This tour explores the heyday of the great Ealing Studios between 1938 and 1959 and features exclusive interviews with film journalist Matthew Sweet, historian Juliet Gardiner, director Terence Davies and actress Joanna McCallum (daughter of Googie Withers and John McCallum) and BFI curators Mark Duguid and Jo Botting.

The tour has been designed for students to explore independently as well as for use in the KS3/4 classroom. Follow the education links at the side of each page to see how you can start applying some of the material highlighted in each section.
