Born in London on 31 January 1966, Dexter Fletcher was in films from childhood, as Baby Face in Bugsy Malone (d. Alan Parker, 1976), the boy who frees The Elephant Man (UK/US, d. David Lynch, 1980) from the freak show, and Al Pacino's son in the Goldcrest-wrecking Revolution (d. Hugh Hudson, 1985).

Very popular with young people as Spike in TV's Press Gang (ITV, 1989-93), he has made his mark as an adult actor in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (d. Guy Ritchie, 1998) and Topsy-Turvy (UK/US, d. Mike Leigh, 1999).

His brothers, Steve Fletcher and Graham Fletcher Cook, made several films each, including The Raggedy Rawney (d. Bob Hoskins, 1988) with Dexter.
