Glover, Julian (1935-)

Actor, Producer

Main image of Glover, Julian (1935-)

Versatile RADA-trained character actor on stage from 1953 and in films from 1963 (a lieutenant in Tom Jones, d. Tony Richardson). He has played official types, like the aggressive Colonel investigating the other-worldly arrival in Quatermass and the Pit (d. Roy Ward Baker, 1967), the hectoring police officer in the little seen Dead Cert (d. Richardson, 1974), and Kristatos in For Your Eyes Only (d. John Glen, 1981), all with apt military bearing.

He has also appeared in international films such as The Empire Strikes Back (US, d. Irvin Kershner, 1980) and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (US, d. Steven Spielberg, 1989); much plushy TV, including QB VII (US, d. Tom Gries, 1974) and Nancy Astor (BBC, 1984); and a controversial King Lear (2001) at the Globe. He married (1) Eileen Atkins and (2) Isla Blair, and his son by Blair is actor Jamie Glover (b.London, 1969).
