Synopsis

Main title: "Funeral at the Front. A Belgian aviator and two officers being laid to rest in the French Churchyard of Gravelines, a few miles from the Belgian frontier". Funeral procession through narrow country lane flanked by soldiers with rifles. Three flag-draped coffins are carried past left to right while band plays and people look on, many with open black umbrellas. Small dog in foreground. Mourners follow coffins. Long shot of churchyard full of mourners, some carrying umbrellas, some formal floral tributes. Flag is removed from coffin, soldiers prepare grave and coffin is lowered into ground. Jump cut to another coffin having flag removed in preparation for being lowered into ground. Starts to rain and umbrellas go up. Jump cut to longer shot to reveal size of crowd gathered. Men carrying floral tributes remove their hats, some soldiers salute, and others present arms.
