The early training of army recruits.

Show full synopsis

Although ostensibly an information film, Raising Soldiers had an obvious recruiting intention as well.

The film shows various aspects of a soldier's life: the medical inspection, recruits draw kit; drill and weapons training; pay parade; PT and sport; food; relaxation in the NAAFI.

Although the commentary refers to "trenches", it also emphasises the concern of "today's Army" for the physical and mental well-being of the soldier, by stressing the approachability of officers and that the British Army is not simply a military machine.
