Myra Hess (1945)

Synopsis

Warning: screenonline full synopses contain 'spoilers' which give away key plot points. Don't read on if you don't want to know the ending!

An uninterrupted, complete piece showing the pianist Myra Hess performing a section of Beethoven's Piano Sonata in F Minor Opus 57 (Appassionata) in the National Gallery, 1945. The ornate picture frames remain empty (the pictures having been removed for safe keeping at the beginning of the war), exactly as they were when Jennings had filmed Myra Hess performing in one of her lunchtime concerts in the National Gallery in 1941 for Listen To Britain (1942), at a darker time in the war. There are no credits apart from the title Myra Hess in large letters followed by the music title. There is no end title; there are no end credits.
