A maid comes into the garden, puts down her basket of clothes, and starts pinning them up on the line. Her master creeps up behind her, takes her in his arms and kisses her. Seemingly not at all offended, she accompanies him behind the sheets, which act as a convenient screen to mask their illicit passion.

Shortly afterwards the man's wife appears on the scene. Seeing the empty basket, she investigates further and discovers the couple behind the sheets, which she angrily pulls down. The maid looks on helplessly as her erstwhile lover is set upon by his wife, hitting him and pulling his hair.
