The Royal opening of the newly electrified Preston to Glasgow section of British Rail's West Coast Main Line.

Show full synopsis

A 'record shoot' filmed to cover the Royal opening of the Northern sections of the West Coast Main Line Electrified route. Filmed mainly as a small 'pat on the back' for British Rail, it basks in the glory of a sense of achievement. The film concentrates on the opening speeches and looks at the lengths and measures taken for the Royal occasion.

A longer, more general film of the 'graft' involved in the construction of the electrified sections can be found under the title Wires Over the Border (1974) .
