Queen Alexandra and Princess Victoria ride in a carriage in London.

Show full synopsis

Alexandra Rose Day was a popular annual event, focussing on a charitable fund created by Queen Alexandra (widow of King Edward VII). The ritual of young women throwing roses into Alexandra's passing carriage was a newsreel favourite. Notice here in the crowd that follows after her carriage a solitary black face. Black Britons, few in number at this time, have scarcely any visible presence in the newsreels.
