Title: "Marquis of Hartington starts annual battle of 2,000 through streets of Ashbourne". The Marquis of Hartington holds up the football for the 1923 annual Royal Shrovetide football match. The ball is tossed into the crowd, which chases after it in a mad frenzy. The giant crowd spills into a field and runs fast after the ball. When the ball falls into a canal, men dive in after it. Eventually one man throws it back into the crowd. The crowd continues to fight for the ball among a shifting sea of heads.
