Lorna is addicted to drugs and uses prostitution to fund her addiction. Her boyfriend Court is determined to stay with her. He persuades her to go to rehab but after a while Lorna stops going. Then something happens to Lorna and Court is called into the police station to explain. Court begins by describing the events leading up to the accident.

One night Lorna returns with some drugs but just as she is about to inject Court throws the gear away. Lorna is distraught, maddened by craving. They fight, she rages, eventually Court manages to calm her down. She asks Court to tell her a story.

Court tells the story of a brother and sister who were so close they had their own language. Then their father leaves and their mother turns to religion and then to the voodoo. The girl gets into drugs and frequently runs away from home.

The girl returns home one night, the brother takes her to his mother's room. The mother performs a bloody ritual on her in order to save her soul.

The boy screams. Court buries his face in his hands.
