Beyond This Open Road (1934)

Synopsis

Warning: screenonline full synopses contain 'spoilers' which give away key plot points. Don't read on if you don't want to know the ending!

We are introduced to different modes of transport, which are all shown in close-up, highlighting stylised views of car grilles and bicycle wheels. This is followed by longer shots of people leaving their homes and boarding transport. People cycling or driving on roads to the countryside are intercut with views of the surroundings as if seen from moving transport. People arrive in the countryside and are seen jumping in the water, swimming and running around. Eventually they tire and we see more relaxed images of people strolling or lying in the sun. As night falls, people begin to leave and drive home in the dark.
