Baby It's Cold Outside
Research centre at Garston on domestic heating efficiency; includes experiments on the Abbots Langley housing estate.

Old Faithful
Old winding machine at Wearmouth.

Up for the Cup
Crookhall Colliery brass band from Durham and their entry in the National Brass Band Contest held at the Albert Hall.

Shifting the River
Engineers diverting the River Browney in County Durham after it flooded the Littleburn Drift mine and threatened Brandon Colliery.

Schoolboys' exhibition at the Horticultural Halls, Westminster, London.

The Magnet
Magnetic safety lamp locks at Thorne colliery and Stoke Orchard laboratory (the Coal Board research laboratory).

Knockout
NCB amateur boxing Edinburgh. Boxers featured are Gerry Scott v David Clarke (welter-weight) and Charley Francis v Tom McLean (heavyweight).

Pit to Power
Underground conveyor at Bradford colliery leading to Stewart Street power station.

Warming Whitehall
The use of a coal by-product in Whitehall boiler room to heat government buildings.

TV At Bolsover
Wilfred Pickles at Bolsover colliery as part of his television programme Have A Go for the BBC.

Training For Rescue
Doncaster rescue station: miners are put through their paces a the rescue station using breathing apparatus and first aid.

The Miner Sings
Miners' folk song competition. The first in a series of recordings of miners songs features 'The Collier's Rant' performed by Rowland Robson.

A safety device for conveyor belts is demonstrated at Thoresby Colliery by inventor Gerald Russon.

Rock climbing: miners in climbing party at Keswick.

June 1951 - No. 10

Exhibition Piece
A two-ton lump of coal is extracted from the Lind Level drift mine at Tredegar and transported to the Festival of Britain for exhibition.

Fuel Sleuths
A paper mill's fuel economy. Testing heat efficiency at St Andrews Paper Mills, London.

The Last Round
NCB boxing finals at Nottingham. Billy Gison v Emlyn Jones (flyweight), J.F. Parsons v R.J. Thomas (middlewight), Arthur Hoyle v Tommy Greathead (light heavy weight).

July 1951 - No. 11

Easington
A disaster at Easington colliery.

Warming The Pot
China making in the Potteries, at the W.T. Copeland & Sons Spode works at Stoke on Trent, using coal for firing from the Norton Pit.

Late Night Final
Rugby finals at Leigh: the North-Western Division rugby league final between Bickershaw Colliery and Sutton Manor Colliery.

Festival Miner
Miner Bob Winfield takes his wife to the Festival pleasure gardens, where he demonstrates the Meco-Moore cutter before taking his wife on a short river trip to Battersea's Festival Pleasure Gardens.
