In a fortified city, protected by a wall and watchtowers, the tailor is sitting next to the window in his parlour. A market vendor passes and the tailor buys a quarter pound of preserve, but the flies keep pestering him. So he swats them with his belt and embroiders his success into it, "7 in one stroke". Then, happily, the tailor sets out into the world.

In one of the cities he visits, the king is worried because two violent giants are threatening his people. The little tailor accepts the challenge of capturing the giants. With courage and cunning, he succeeds in waking the giants in such a way that they attack each other. In the end, the little tailor manages to tie the two giants and return to the city, where he is being awaited.

Proudly, the little tailor meets the king and his daughter, and marries her.
