Giuseppina, the daughter of Giuseppe Rossi, owner of a rural Italian petrol station asks her father to take her to the local fair. Giuseppe declines, but tells her that she will see lots of the world staying at the station.

Two priests ride by on a moped, one loses his hat and Giuseppina retrieves it for him. An American couple powers into the station in their Cadillac, while Giuseppe fills the car, the Americans take photographs of everything.

A marriage party finishes their meal. The newlyweds drive off. A little way down the road the car experiences a flat tyre. The bride and groom push the car to the petrol station. While Giuseppe fixes the spare, Giuseppina collects flowers for the bride. The married couple drive off happily.

An English family putters into the station in their Morris Traveller. Giuseppe recognises a fault with a spark plug and replaces it. Meanwhile the English family take tea and biscuits at their picnic table and chairs.

Giuseppe takes a wet shave outside. A donkey-drawn cart goes by with squeaky wheels; he follows it and applies oil to the wheel until it ceases.

A Mercedes sports car zooms up driven by a sharp suited man, with a guitar-playing passenger. While the car is filled up, the "sharp suit" takes the opportunity to dance with Giuseppina.

Beppo, a boy with a go-cart turns up at the petrol station. Giuseppe mimes filling up Beppo's cart and the boy goes off happy. Giuseppina questions why her father gives Beppo any time and he reminds her that everyone is important.
