Mining Review 3/7: Spadework (1950)

Synopsis

Warning: screenonline full synopses contain 'spoilers' which give away key plot points. Don't read on if you don't want to know the ending!

The commentary doubles as a synopsis, and is reproduced below:

At Hem Heath Colliary, West Midlands, area chiefs and the pit consultative committee met Sir Ben Smith, divisional chairman, to start off a new project.

Sir Ben cut the first sod for a new ventilation shaft. One more spadeful for luck, and then the workmen took over. They'll be on this job nearly two years. This shaft, 24 feet in diameter, will be the largest in the division.
