Through the archway, shops line the high street and people fill the pavement. A few men and women walk across the tram's path. A little way ahead, a man and boy cross the tracks.

A row of lampposts divides the road into two lanes. A horse-drawn carriage passes on the adjacent lane. Soon another tram passes, with men and women sitting on its open-top deck. Down below, a policeman crosses the line. Two carriages pass by the tram before another tram becomes visible up ahead. A man jumps on as it moves.
