Having been accepted for the prison service, but before receiving their formal instruction, three prison officers under training visit Maidstone Prison and Rochester Borstal to see the staff and inmates. The film reveals their first impressions of prison life and gives insight into the nature of the men who are the prison officers, and life in a prison environment.
