An artist begins to sketch a hat and the face of a woman on a black canvas surrounded by an elaborate frame. The head comes to life. He lifts it down and puts it on a table. The head speaks to him, and watches as he draws an armless bust, which is taken down from the canvas in similar fashion and attached to the head. He draws arms, which are also attached. The woman asks for her bottom half, and he draws her a long skirt. She thanks him, and her full live figure steps from the table. The artists recommences drawing, this time a picture of a baby in long robes, which he also extracts from the canvas.
