This Month: Jemima + Johnny (1966)
Each month in our Show and Tell section, we offer one film to four teachers to explore in different subject areas.
This month we asked our contributers to look at a short film depicting the relationship between a young white boy and a Caribbean girl who form a bond that defies prejudice as they explore the streets of Notting Hill one afternoon. Directed by Pretoria-born Lionel Ngakane, a contemporary of Nelson Mandela's in the ANC Youth League, Jemima + Johnny was the first Black British film to win at an international film festival, when it was awarded 1st prize at Venice in 1966. What have this month's teachers made of it?
