What do you think?

  1. Why do you think Serbian boys are working on the land in Britain in 1916?
  2. Topical Budget was a British newsreel company which made silent films to show in theatres across the country. Why do you think this film was made?
  1. They were refugees from Serbia.
  2. Newsreels were the primary source of news in the early part of the twentieth century. They depicted a cross-section of everyday life from across the UK as well as from abroad so this film was probably a short piece of public interest footage rather than propaganda.
