The only way is up! A look at the high-rise - the 1960s answer to a booming population.

"High flats sprouting like mushrooms from cities all over Britain. The challenge of a new age with new problems solved by new ideas..."

In the 1960s the continuing surge in Britain's population drove architects and planners to look skywards in a relatively short-lived attempt to conserve space - and money.

This short item, from the Look at Life series, touches briefly on some of the problems with high rise living but the tone is emphatically positive - celebrating the well-planned tower block as the 'home for the future'.
