The government recommends BBC tests a public TV service using the John Logie Baird 240-line and Marconi-EMI 405-line systems over alternate weeks

In line with the recommendation of the Television Committee chaired by Lord Selsdon (published the following day), postmaster general announces that BBC will begin trialling a television service in London, alternating between two different systems, the 240-line Baird system, and the 450-line Marconi-EMI system.
