This June sees the latest of the popular BT/BFI Screenonline Archive Interactive series, with the highly esteemed actor Sir Derek Jacobi leading a richly illustrated guide to the fascinating work of the General Post Office's Film Unit, first of the great industrial film units that were central to the development of British documentary film in the 1930s and 40s. The guide features extracts from a dozen GPO films, including the celebrated Night Mail and the wonderfully kitsch The Fairy of the Phone.

Also this month, we continue our focus on Liverpool in 'A City on Screen', while we look back at the awe-inspiring body of work left behind by David Lean in this, his centenary year, and explore television in the 1950s, the decade when the youthful medium really made its presence felt. In the Education Zone, three teachers suggest lesson ideas around Jemima + Johnny (1966), a touching short film about the friendship of a young white boy and a West Indian girl, set against the backdrop of a racially-divided Notting Hill.

Highlights of this month's updates can be found on the Screenonline home page.
