A child's pictorial alphabet stuck on the letter H and a view of the English countryside.

Show full synopsis

Peter Greenaway was teaching his children the alphabet and, as an exercise, began thinking of all the possible words that begin with the letter H. H is for House (1976) plays with the absurdity of the idea of the alphabet as an index used for organising information. The result is somewhat like a children's picturebook of the letter H, though with a witty secondary adult message, illustrated with images of Greenaway's country home and young family.
