British Film Institute

Children throughout the British Empire celebrated Empire Day on May 24th (Queen Victoria's birthday), a tradition instituted in 1904. Children dressed up in the costumes of lands they had never seen (except on the cinema screen) and expressed their loyalty to the Empire.
