This Month: Austen on Screen

Each month Spotlight On... takes an existing Screenonline collection of films and asks a range of subject teachers to develop resources around the various featured films and extracts.

So far, we've looked at Topical Budget - the pre-eminent newsreel of the 1910s and 20s, a fantastic collection of animated short films - that includes the ground-breaking A is for Autism, as well as a group of films and programmes that deal with the ever controversial topic of housing.

This month, however, the focus is on TV and film adaptations of some of Jane Austen's most popular novels, with a series of English lessons that encourage students to compare and contrast literary and cinematic techniques and explore how filmmakers have interpreted these classic texts since the 1960s.
